While similar picks could be used on any of the many sites that offer daily fantasy baseball, the salaries and roster structure used in this post are based on DraftKings typical setup. If you choose to play on FanDuel, Draftster, FantasyAces, or the new Yahoo daily fantasy site, my lineups would be similar with maybe some minor adjustments based on player pricing and scoring differences.
Whatever site you choose to play on, if you have a question about your DFS or season-long baseball team, you can find me @FansidedFantasy on Twitter throughout the day. I’ll also update you if I have to adjust my lineups based on weather or team’s starting lineups as they come out. Let’s get right to my DraftKings fantasy baseball picks for this Friday night with my turbo and late-only lineups on the next few slides.
7:05 lineup
SP-Jose Fernandez-Miami Marlins: While everyone will own Fernandez, he’s in too good a matchup to pass up as he takes on the Phillies. Fernandez is 2-0 in his two starts since returning from his lengthy layoff while allowing three runs in 13 innings and on an even more encouraging note for fantasy owners he has picked up 15 strikeouts in those 13 innings.
SP-Matt Cain-San Francisco Giants: Cain returned from injury the same game that Fernandez did although he didn’t fare nearly as well in that game. He did look excellent in his second start last Tuesday when he threw six shutout innings against the Mets allowing just two hits and striking out seven. He’s a high-risk, high-reward play at a nice price tonight as he and the Giants face Arizona in the desert. Over the last three seasons, Cain has ten starts against Arizona going 4-1 with a 3.19 ERA.
C-John Jaso-Tampa Bay Rays: Jaso has gone 9-22 (.409)in his eight games this season with a double and a home run. It’s a small sample size to be sure, but he represents some nice value at a tough catcher position and should be in a good matchup tonight against Drew Hutchinson and the Blue Jays in Toronto.
1B-Chris Carter-Houston Astros: Carter is 6-13 in his career against Martin Perez who starts for the Rangers tonight for the first time this season. Two of his six hits off Perez have been home runs. Carter doesn’t usually hit for average, but 11 of his 15 long-balls have come at home at Minute Maid Park where he should be in the lineup tonight.
2B-Jedd Gyorko-San Diego Padres: Gyorko is an ultra-cheap option at 2B due to his offensive struggles this season. Tonight, though, he faces Jorge De La Rosa who he is 12-18 (.667) against in his career. Gyorko has also shown a few signs of life lately and is hitting .300 (12-40) in July so far.
3B-Nolan Arenado-Colorado Rockies: On the flip side of that NL West matchup, Arenado is 7-11 (.636) against James Shields in his career with three homers. He rolled into the break with a 12-40 (.300) start to the month and has gone 9-20 (.450) with three homers already this season against the Padres.
SS-Xander Bogaerts-Boston Red Sox: Bogaerts hit in ten straight games to start the month and is 17-43 (.395) with three doubles and ten RBI. He is 0-6 against C.J. Wilson in his career, but I think he’ll get it going against Wilson tonight.
OF-Carlos Gonzalez-Coloradro Rockies: CarGo finally started hitting before the All Star break going 15-41 (.366) to start the month. He is 6-14 (.429) against James Shields in his career with a pair of home runs.
OF-Matt Kemp-San Diego Padres: Another batter from that NL West matchup which I’m heavily invested in is Matt Kemp. Kemp crushes Rockies starter’ Jorge De La Rosa with an 18-44 (.409) career mark with five doubles and three homers.
OF-Gerardo Parra-Milwaukee Brewers: Parra and the Brewers take on Pittsburgh tonight as they face Charlie Morton. Parra has had a great start to the season hitting over .300 with nine homers in the first half. He is 17-40 (.425) this month with four of those home runs. As long as he doesn’t have to face lefties, Parra is a nice value play.
