Fantasy Baseball: DFS Baseball July 17th GPP Options

I play daily fantasy daily like most of you who are reading this and I have to say that these five days have been the longest five days of my life. Starting Sunday, I started diving into studying this slate so I haven’t had much of a break at all. How I wanted to approach this article was talk about the contrarian options for your tournament’s on Friday. I don’t play many tournaments, as I’m a cash game player, but I do play in some tournaments and these are the players that I’m using.

Pitcher:
Andrew Hutchison– Hutchison will be my hands down tournament option, but his ownership won’t quite be as low as you may expect because all the smart daily fantasy players will be on him at home. Hutchison is a solid pitcher at home and is a complete disaster on the road this season according to the numbers. Well, Hutchison will be back in the Rogers Centre, where his xFIP is 3.03 and his ERA is 2.12. On top of pitching well, the Blue Jay’s offense is averaging 5.7 runs per game, which should place him in line for an easy win.

Salaries: $6,700 DK, $8,300 FD

Catcher:

Andrew Susac – We have to make sure Susac is in the lineup, but if he is, then I’m all in on him. Susac has solid numbers against southpaws this year and he gets Robbie Ray who isn’t quite good enough to get this Giants lineup out. Susac is going to hit sixth and will be in a good position to drive in runs with his 0.393 wOBA. Although Susac isn’t going to hit a home run for you, I think he get a couple hits with a RBI, which makes him a solid punt option at catcher tomorrow.

Salaries: $2,600 DK; $2,300 FD

First Base:

Mike Napoli- Napoli hit C.J. Wilson extremely well the last time he was at Boston, hitting two homeruns. However, now we move to Los Angeles and I’m not sure much is going to change. Of course, I’m not expecting Napoli to bomb two homeruns again, but I definitely think that he is capable of hitting one homerun. Not only is Napoli becoming a specialist of hitting C.J. Wilson, Wilson has been known to struggle and Napoli has hit lefties well this season. In 83 plate appearances, he holds a 0.349 wOBA and a 0.257 ISO off of southpaws this season.

Salaries: $3,700 DK; $2,500 FD

Second Base:

Robinson Cano – Everyone who’s anyone is going to be on Neil Walker tomorrow and rightfully so, but if you want a low owned player to pivot off Walker, go with Cano. Cano has disastrous numbers against Tanaka, which will scare off some. However, Tanaka has been known to struggle at Yankee Stadium and let’s not pretend that Robinson Cano can’t hit a baseball 314 feet. I think Cano is back. The new swing coach has really helped, and it seems like Cano is turning it around.

Salaries: $3,900 DK; $3,000 FD

Third Base:

Alex Rodriguez – Nobody is ever playing A-Rod and I don’t understand it. It’s sustainable, but it’s okay, I’ll just keep taking your money. Give me Alex Rodriguez against a spotty lefty at home, coming after a week off. At home this season, Alex Rodriguez is posting a 0.427 wOBA and a 0.244 ISO, which are off the charts. Anytime A-Rod is at home, he’s in play.

Salaries: $4,300 DK; $3,700 FD

Shortstop:

Adeiny Hechavarria- Hechavarria is massively underrated against southpaws, and at his price I have to play him. Hechavarria is posting a 0.423 wOBA along with a 0.185 ISO, which tells me that I can rule out a homerun but oh well. Hechavarria is going to hit third for the Marlins against lefty Adam Morgan who is young and is going to make his mistakes. Hechavarria will be low owned and can give you double digit fantasy points.

Salaries: $3,000 DK; $2,300 FD

Outfielder:

Matt Kemp– I’m all in on Kemp tomorrow and probably for the second half of the season. Jorge De La Rosa is hittable and Kemp has proven that he is capable of knocking him around a little bit posting three homeruns in 44 at bats, while batting 0.409. Kemp has been flat out on fire before the all-star break and I fully expect him to carry this into the second half of the season. In Kemp’s last five games, he is averaging 5.2 fantasy points per game.

Salaries: $4,000 DK; $3,200 FD
