Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban explains how Richard Jefferson leaving went down.

For the second time in a month, the Dallas Mavericks have seen a player who agreed to a deal leave for a different team before signing when Richard Jefferson joined the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This situation was incredibly different however from the DeAndre Jordan situation, as described by Mark Cuban on the Cyberdust app.

“Yesterday he called me and said he had an opportunity with the Cavs. A team that is obviously well positioned in the Eastern Conference,” Cuban wrote.

“He asked if I would consider letting him out of his commitment to the Mavs so he could take the offer. He told me that if I wouldn’t he would honor his word.

“We discussed what his minutes situation would be with us. His health. His career and how much longer he wanted to play. It was an in depth, open conversation.

“In the end I thought it was fair to RJ and in the best interests of the Mavs to agree to let him go to the Cavs.

“RJ has been first class in every respect during his time with the Mavs. I consider him a friend and wish him nothing but the best.

“For Mavs fans, this opens up more time for Justin Anderson, who showed some of what he can do during the Summer League and will only get better.

“It also creates an extra roster spot and increases our options for the center position.”

See DeAndre Jordan, that’s how it is done.
