As we approach the 2015 MLB Trade Deadline, one of the more prominent names being talked about consistently is Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Johnny Cueto. With the Reds seemingly spiraling out of control, they’re looking to dump some of their more viable assets as they try to put this whole thing back together.
Well as each day passes, it looks more and more like it’s only a matter of time before Cueto has a new home, and there are some contenders that seem like likely landing spots for him.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS, teams that appear to be the front runners to land the services of Cueto are the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays.
All of these teams being in tight contention make sense more than anything, as they all have their sights set on a playoff push here in the second half. The Yankees are in first place in the AL East, with the Blue Jays currently 4.5 games behind them. The Royals have a significant 6.5 game lead in the NL Central, while the Astros are just two games behind the Angels in the AL West.
Each one of these teams hold World Series aspirations going forward, and adding an arm the likes of Johnny Cueto into their rotation could give them the extra boost they need to eventually take the World Series title home.
This season for the Reds Cueto is 6-6 in 18 games started with a 2.79 ERA.
