The NBA will offer single-game telecasts during the 2015-16 season at $6.99 pay-per-view price.

The NBA and Adam Silver aren’t messing around when it comes to their telecasts of games for the 2015-16 regular season. Earlier this month ESPN announced that they would be nationally broadcasting games on Saturday nights this season in addition to their Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday national broadcasts. On Wednesday, the NBA announced something much more monumental in regards to their broadcasting of games.

The league announced on Wednesday that they will offer fans the opportunity to pay $6.99 to watch single out-of-market games that aren’t nationally televised, as reported by Darren Rovell of ESPN. The single-game pay-per-view option will operate similarly to NBA League Pass in that fans will be able to watch on computers, tablets, and mobile devices. It’s assumed that television providers will also offer the service, though it’s not yet announced which providers will be involved.

In addition to the single-game package, the NBA will also be offering a team-centric version of League Pass. For a price of $119.99, fans will be able to watch every game for a team that they aren’t in the primary market for. While that service may not be as monumental as the pay-per-view for single games, it’s still another positive move in catering to NBA fans.

This is an incredibly savvy move by the NBA. With the availability of media in this age of technology, fandom is much less dependent on geographical location than ever before. The result of that in the past has been fans either not being able to watch the games at all or having to pay a premium price for League Pass when they are only actually able to watch a handful of games or only are interested in watching one team. This new service gives fans the freedom to not have to do that.

For those fans that want to consume as much NBA action as possible regardless of team, the standard League Pass package will still be available for the price of $199.99. With the announcement of the pay-per-view for single games, you have to wonder if any changes will be coming to the League Pass service as well.

Rovell added in his report that the league is looking into eventually selling parts of game for a pay-per-view price so fans could just check out the final minutes of games or something in that light. However, that’s not something that will be available for the 2015-16 season.

Since taking over as commissioner, Adam Silver has proven to be forward thinking and has done a fantastic job of making the league even more fan-friendly and accessible. This is another step in that direction and fans have to be excited for what else Silver has in store for the future in this regard.
