A Philadelphia Phillies fan wasn’t paying attention on Wednesday, and paid the price by taking a bat to the face
Basically sitting anywhere on the lower level of a Major League Baseball stadium is pretty dangerous, although it’s generally fly balls that you have to worry about. Well, at the Philadelphia Phillies game on Wednesday afternoon, a foul ball actually created a diversion for something a little more dangerous.
Cody Asche was at the plate for the Phillies on Wednesday when he rocketed off a foul ball. Of course, out of instinct, most of the fans were watching where the ball was going to land. Unfortunately, the bat also happened to fly out of Asche’s hands, and it struck someone in the face that was watching the ball.
Again, generally the foul balls are what you have to worry about in the seats, but this time that wasn’t the larger issue here. Watching a ball and getting nailed with a bat is one of the last things that you expect while watching a game.
Thankfully, it appears that the fan was alright, and may have taken more of the impact on her chest rather than on most of her face. This situation could have ended up a lot worse, and thankfully it didn’t.
