5. NFL Films

When you try to watch old footage of the aforementioned three sports, you get nowhere. There are the same famous clips and that’s it. With the NFL, you can watch thousands of hours of film from incredible angles with terrific soundbites. All of that is thanks to the father and son team of Ed and Steve Sabol, who started a company that has recorded everything from 1964 to the present day.

4. Parity

It is difficult to stay really bad in the NFL. Granted, some franchises like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills have mastered the art over the last decade or so, but the league’s rules are built to keep all 32 teams competitive. Because of this, every fan base feels like it has a chance. Despite a few outliers, nobody can say that about baseball and basketball.

3. Fantasy football

This has become a massive industry. Millions are playing every Sunday, and leagues are pushed from every corner. People throw down big money to be in leagues and are willing to watch every one of their players throughout the season even if their actual team is terrible. Heck, DirecTV Sunday Ticket allows you to enter in your fantasy team and it updates you when they score points.

2. Super Bowl

You can’t be that guy or girl at the Super Bowl party who has to ask which teams are playing. Those people are the absolute worst. So, instead of being that person, you decide to watch a few games during the season. BOOM. You are hooked. The Super Bowl has become so much larger than just another sporting event, it is actually a national holiday.

1. Relationships

There is something about football that brings people together. Whether it be a group of friends or father and son, football allows people a common denominator. So many relationships in life are frayed, and watching sports and pulling for the same team can, even if for only a few hours, heal those issues. Football can be more than just a game, and that is a beautiful thing.
