WWE superstar Daniel Bryan hasn’t been in the ring for a few months now, not since he was forced to relinquish his Intercontinental Championship and exit the ring after suffering what we would find out to be a concussion. There has been a lot of mystery surrounding his return, but Bryan himself may have shed a little bit of light on that.
In a recent interview with FOX Sports, while he admitted that the WWE doctors haven’t cleared him yet, he vowed that he will be back in the ring and he hopes to make this happen by the time the 2016 Royal Rumble rolls around in January.
"“I don’t know. It’s kind of in the hands of certain doctors, as far as them clearing me and what not. My goal was to be back by SummerSlam, and that’s looking less and less likely, and so then you’re hoping to be back by Royal Rumble.”"
Boy, this really feels like Deja Vu all over again here in 2015. As you’ll recall, Bryan suffered a neck injury shortly after winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship last year and he was forced out of the ring. After being out for quite a while healing up, Bryan didn’t make his return to the ring until this past January right before the — you guessed it, the Royal Rumble.
While some fans might be displeased with the time frame, this is a concussion we’re dealing with. Concussion protocol and safety procedures is not only a concern in professional wrestling, but throughout all sports. Not to mention there’s the plethora of concussion lawsuits WWE is currently dealing with on a regular basis.
In the end, though, it’s extremely good to hear that Bryan will be back in the WWE ring some day, seeing as there was a concern when he originally left this year that it might be the end.
