It is not a typical golf tournament when Robert Allenby is making the headlines. Allenby has never been much more than a decent player who wins the occasional weekend, but on Thursday we got to see him in rare form.

In the Canadian Open at the Glen Abbey Golf Club in Ontario, Canada, Allenby was playing the 13th hole when he and caddy Mick Middlemo got into an argument about which club to use while playing the fourth shot on the par five. Allenby wanted to use a 7-iron, while Middlemo was adamant he hit with the 8-iron. The hole ended in disaster, with the Australian shooting a triple bogey.

When they hit the end of the 18th hole, Middlemo and Allenby had enough of each other, with the caddy walking off. At that point, Tom Fraser stepped to the fore and got the golf fan’s dream of a lifetime to come true, according to Bleacher Report and ScoreGolf’s Jason Logan.

"I said to him, ‘You know this happens every week. This has happened for like the last three or four or five months. We keep making bad mistakes and you’re not helping me in these circumstances.’ And he just lost the plot at me. He just told me I could go eff myself. And I said, ‘Look, you need to slow down. I mean just calm down.’And then he just got right in my face as if he wanted to just beat me up. I said, ‘Stop being a such and such and calm down and get back into the game.’ And he just got even closer and closer and I just said, ‘That’s it, you’re sacked.’ I said, ‘I will never have you caddie ever again.’ And we never spoke for the rest of the (first nine) and when we got to 18 we walked off and he said some smartass remark to me and I said, ‘You don’t deserve to be caddying out there.’ And he just got right in my face and threatened me so I said, ‘Go.’ So he left."

Allenby ended up shooting an 81 to tie for 155th in the tournament, likely to miss the cut. Still, the golfer will never forget the round, and certainly won’t be blaming his replacement caddy for the high score, per Bleacher Report.

"“He did a great job,” Allenby told Logan. “He did everything he was told. He was a nice guy. I’m really thankful that he helped me out. It was nice to have someone friendly on the bag who didn’t want to threaten me.”"
