Cooperstown is welcoming in a new class this summer, and the Baseball Hall of Fame inductions will take place this afternoon.
The Baseball Hall of Fame has been the subject of major controversy over the years for allowing some players in that might not totally deserve to be there while blocking others who probably deserve induction from getting in. That’s the struggle with the Hall of Fame, but this year it seems the voters got things right for once in a long time.
The steroids era is still putting a damper on the voting process, but there are a handful of legendary players getting inducted into Cooperstown this afternoon.
Leading the class are three pitchers who dominated in their own ways. John Smoltz is the elder statesman of the group, pitching his career with the Atlanta Braves and becoming a part of their legendary rotation in the 90s. Then there’s Randy Johnson, who was a wild man with the Mariners, Astros and Diamondbacks in the prime of his career. Pedro Martinez rounds out the pitchers being inducted this year, putting together a legendary career with first the Expos and most famously the Boston Red Sox.
Not to be outdone, Astros legend Craig Biggio will inducted this year as well after putting together an iconic career in Houston over the course of the 90s and into the 2000s.
