The Seattle Mariners turned a bizarre, yet effective triple play catching two players on the same base.
With two batters on, the Toronto Blue Jays hit a bouncing single right to first base for an easy out. What happened after that was just madness.
Jays left fielder Ezequiel Carrera tried to run home but got caught in a pickle between the pitcher and Seattle Mariners catcher Mike Zunino.
Carrera tried to run back to third base, but center fielder Kevin Pillar had already ran all the way around to third base. Zunino followed Carrera all the way back to third base and tagged out Pillar, then Carrera as he fell off the base.
Certainly not the most conventional triple play in the history of baseball, but just as effective getting all three outs to end the inning. One thing is for certain, this will undoubtedly be on SportsCenter’s “Not Top 10” plays later this week for the Blue Jays, who need to re-evaluate their base running.
It is hard to decide who is to blame, Carrera for running around or Pillar for running all the way to third and staying there instead of making an attempt to get back to second.
