LaTroy Hawkins: I can help the Blue Jays win the World Series
By Mike Dyce
LaTroy Hawkins thinks he can help lead his new team, the Toronto Blue Jays, to a World Series title.
The Toronto Blue Jays are committed to winning this year. Right now they sit seven games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East and three games behind the Minnesota Twins for the second and final Wild Card spot. The Blue Jays worked out a deal with the Colorado Rockies a few days ahead of the MLB non-waiver trade deadline to acquire shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and pitcher LaTroy Hawkins.
Hawkins is 42 years old and elated to be in Toronto, so much so that he is already dreaming of October baseball and postseason success.
“I’m excited to be going to an organization that has a chance to win, and they’re showing the commitment to winning this year and for years to come,” Hawkins told MLB.com’s Thomas Harding. “I’ve got three good months left in me. Hopefully, I can help the Blue Jays get to the World Series and win the World Series. That’s a wonderful way to end my career. I can’t see a more fitting way to end it.”
Hawkins was a solid contributor in the Rockies’ bullpen, getting 23 saves in 2014. This season Hawkins has been used more in a setup role, likely the same position he’d have with the Blue Jays.
Unfortunately for Hawkins, the Blue Jays are likely more excited about Tulowitzki.
