Rockies Trade Rumors: Carlos Gonzalez won’t be traded until winter, maybe
By Josh Hill
The Colorado Rockies traded Troy Tulowitzki this week, but they may not move his bestie Carlos Gonzlaez until the winter.
With the MLB trade deadline about to pass in a few days, teams are scrambling to make sure they have the right pieces they think they need to contend for a spot in the postseason. Not everyone is interested in being buyers though, and the Colorado Rockies have shocked everyone by being the biggest sellers of all so far.
Move over Oakland, you’re handful of trades are nothing compared to the seismic wave that Colorado sent out by trading Troy Tulowitzki. Beyond the fact that the Rockies took a massive trade chip and swapped him out for a guy who is routinely injured, Colorado needs to think about what they want to do with Tulo’s best friend and now former teammate, Carlos Gonzalez.
According to Jerry Crasnick, the Rockies are still very open to trading Carlos Gonzalez now that Troy Tulowitzki is playing in Toronto.
If the Rockies trade CarGo before the season is over, it would’ the all that surprising. The team is clearly in selling mode and aren’t really all that interested in getting beat return, as it seems.
But if they hang onto him until the winter, the question is will his value be diminished by then? This is the time of year where teams will overpay to get players that they need or want, and Gonzalez is the type of player who could not only help this season but be someone who can be a major cog to a team’s future.
That teams probably won’t be Colorado, but if the Yankees, Mets and other teams who were rumored to be interested in Tulo missed out and still want something, then trading for CarGo could be an answer to their issues.
