If you have watched sports long enough, you can clearly see when a team has all its mojo working. The Kansas City Royals were the epitome of not having any mojo for the better part of 30 years until the stretch run of last year’s Major League Baseball regular season.

Things have been clicking ever since for this group from the heartland, and it was on full display on Tuesday night at Progressive Field against the Cleveland Indians. On their way to another win, this gem was created by the middle infield duo of Omar Infante and Alcides Escobar.

Stuff like that is simply not supposed to happen, even at the profession level. Infante makes an unreal play just to get to the ball, and then effortless flips it to Escobar who rifles the ball in plenty of time to first baseman Eric Hosmer for the first out of the ninth inning.

This was not in a situation where the Royals could fool around because they were up by 10 runs. This was a 2-1 game that Greg Holland was in to close out. If that ball gets through the middle – like it should have – Kansas City is in some hot water. Instead, Holland goes on to nail down the save and the Royals are one win closer to a second consecutive postseason berth.

Kansas City is the best team in the American League, and it is plays like that which make believers.
