3. Acquire David Price from the Tigers

It is not often that a player is worth potentially mortgaging the future for. Detroit Tigers ace David Price is one of these rare instances.

The San Fransisco Giants have expressed a strong desire to add a second elite arm to compliment Madison Bumgarner at the top of the rotation, and David Price is the most talented pitcher available at the MLB trade deadline.

Price is having arguably the best season of his career, recording a career-best 2.31. He is also averaging better than his career average for strikeouts (8.6), home runs (0.7) and walks (1.7) per nine innings.

One major concern for any team attempting to acquire Price is that he will be a free agent following the season. However, a solid impression, which San Fransisco has every opportunity to make, would go a long way in persuading one of the best pitchers in the game to consider staying with the team for the remainder of his prime.

A trade to land Price would require parting ways with a combination of the top prospects in the Giants’ farm system, but the opportunity to add a Cy Young winner to a struggling pitching staff is worth the gamble. Highly touted right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede, catcher Andrew Susac and another top-15 prospect could be enough to get the deal done.

Considering that the team they are chasing in the National League West, the Los Angeles Dodgers, is one of the few teams heavily pursuing Price, the Giants have even more incentive to make an offer that the Tigers cannot refuse.
