Marcus Mariota will indeed be entering Tennessee Titans training camp as the No. 1 man at the quarterback position

Heading into training camps around the NFL this season, as always, the focus is on a lot of the position battles. In regards to the Tennessee Titans, people have been wondering whether or not rookie and Heisman winner Marcus Mariota will be the starting man under center when practice gets underway.

Well, head coach Ken Whisenhunt shed some light on that Thursday when he was asked about the quarterback pecking order in Tennessee.

“(You mean) after Marcus?” Whisenhunt said, according to the Tennessean.

This actually shouldn’t come as all that much of a shock, seeing as the Titans went out of their way to take the former Oregon signal caller with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft recently. From that moment he was unofficially pegged as the savior of the organization, so there’s really no reason not to get that going right off the bat here.

Now the attention turns a little more towards who the backup will be, as that battle more or less comes down to Zach Mettenberger and Charlie Whitehurst. Of course, though, there’s no reason not to think that Mettenberger, the second-year quarterback out of LSU, won’t give the reigning Heisman winner a run for his money for the starting job.

Last season during his run to the Heisman, Mariota finished with 4,454 passing yards with 42 touchdowns and just four interceptions in that wild Oregon fast-paced offense. With that being said, though, the more pressing issue on everyone’s minds is whether or not Mariota can adapt to the NFL style of offense and still be just as successful.

We don’t know the answer to that yet, but we’ll start to find out soon as training camps and preseason games get underway.
