2015 Trade Deadline: Will Gerardo Parra Still Have Value In Baltimore?

facebooktwitterreddit

The Milwaukee Brewers have moved their second outfielder in the last ten hours by moving Gerardo Parra to the Balimore Orioles on Friday morning. Here is the deal:

Considering some of the deal that came through yesterday, this is a nice, simple one. And one that will help out fantasy owners. Baltimore has a black hole in left field right now with Travis Snider and David Lough. Snider, signed in the offseason, has been a disaster. Snider is hitting just .239 with three homers and 20 RBI on the year. Lough is hitting just .218 with four homers and 12 RBI. Neither of them were really fantasy relevant anyway. Now they really aren’t.

Parra will play left field everyday for Baltimore. He has been great for the Brewers this year, hitting .328 with nine homers, nine RBI, and 31 RBI. Parra should be owned in every league already. If not, go scoop him up for free!

If not, making an offer for Parra is a good idea. Having him atop Baltimore’s order should increase his runs scored. With the DH in the American League, he will no longer have the pitcher batting in front of him, meaning he should have more RBI opportunities, and could see better pitches to hit. I am buying on Parra in Baltimore.

  • Zach Davies comes in as the number 11 rated prospect in the Brewers system. He was 5-6 with a 2.84 ERA in 18 starts for AAA Norfolk. Davies is not a knockout prospect, but he could slide into Milwaukee’s rotation within the next week or so. I expect Milwaukee to shop Matt Garza and Kyle Lohse this afternoon to teams that miss out in the big name starters left. If they succeed in moving one or both of them, Davies will get the call.

If he does, he is worth kicking the tires on in leagues of 12 or more teams. He could be a good matchup-based pitcher for your team down the stretch.

The Brewers also sent out a bullpen arm. Here is that trade:

Jonathan Broxton further strengthens St. Louis’s bridge to closer Trevor Rosenthal. This also pushes newly acquired Steve Cishek back an inning. Broxton’s value won’t change, except that he could pick up a few more holds if you are in a league that counts them.

Malik Collymore has toiled away in the rookie league for parts of the last three seasons, and is hitting .286 with four homers, 44 RBI, and 12 steals in 96 games. He is not a highly touted prospect, and the Brewers likely won’t know what they have in him for at least another three years, if not longer.
