Top 10 MLB Trade Deadline day deals since 2001
4. Tigers get David Price for Drew Smyly, Austin Jackson
After spending his first six and a half seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Cy Young pitcher David Price was the subject of trade talks in 2014. The Rays were struggling and looking to get some key pieces in return for the ace.

Price, at the time a 28-year-old superstar, was finally dealt on deadline day to the Tigers for young lefty Drew Smyly and some other minor league prospects. Detroit also sent Austin Jackson to the Mariners as it was a three-team deal.
Smyly has been solid although he’s appeared in just 10 career games for the Rays. He posted a 1.70 ERA and 3-1 record in seven starts for his new team to end the 2014 season, looking like an absolute steal. To start the 2015 campaign, he recorded a 2.70 ERA in three starts before heading to the DL with a torn labrum.
Jackson was expected to be the center fielder of the future for the Tigers, but the 28-year-old is now trying to find his way with the Mariners, seemingly struggling in the pitcher’s park in Seattle.
Last, but certainly not least, Price had been a Cy Young candidate for the entire 2015 season with a 9-4 record and 2.53 ERA in 21 starts with three complete games for the Tigers. However, Detroit has struggled this year and decided to trade the veteran ace prior to this year’s deadline.
Toronto is the new home of David Price.
