NFL Trade: Eagles trade Brandon Boykin to Steelers for draft pick
By Josh Hill
The Eagles have traded cornerback Brandon Boykin to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick.
It’s the dog days of summer in the NFL, where not a whole lot goes on and virtually nothing is happening outside of training camps opening. Leave it to Chip Kelly to remind us that he loves to trade his players though, as he’s done that very thing on Saturday night.
According to Adam Caplan from ESPN.com, the Eagles and Steelers have swapped Brandon Boykin in exchange for a fifth round pick headed back to Philly.
This isn’t huge surprise if you’ve followed the whole saga wit Boykin in Philadelphia. He was unhappy with not starting and Chip Kelly has ritualistically shown he has no time to give to players who are going to put up even the slightest guff.
Pittsburgh is getting a talented young cornerback who is still in the prime of his career and on the rise. He wasn’t getting the time he wanted in Philly, and while he’s nowhere near the level of the top flight cornerbacks in the NFL right now, Boykin is still a talent that the Steelers will be happy to have in theirs secondary.
This comes as the latest trade Chip Kelly has made during his tenure has head coach in Philadelphia. Everyone from DeSean Jackson to Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy weren’t safe from his trade wrath, and as soon as Boykin started making noise, he was gone.
Say what you will about Chip Kelly and the way he runs his team, at least the players know how to get traded if they’re unhappy — just pipe up and say something, anything.
