Ranking the best sports cities in the United States
By Mike Dyce
20. St. Louis
St. Louis is home to three professional sports franchises: the Rams (NFL), Blues (NHL) and Cardinals (MLB).
You could make the case that the Cardinals have one of the most die-hard fan bases in all of sports, and that creates a unique and thrilling sporting atmosphere. The Cardinals have also been the pride of the city, contending every year and winning World Series titles in 2006 and 2011.
The Blues are also a franchise deep in history, though they haven’t come anywhere close to the success of the Cardinals.
At the turn of the millennium the Rams were at their best, winning a Super Bowl with Kurt Warner. Since then they’ve failed to find the same success, partly because they play in of the NFL’s toughest divisions.
Still, St. Louis has attracted other major sporting events as well. Real Madrid and Inter Milan played at the Edward Jones Dome. The stadium also hosted the 2005 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament Final Four.
The stadium has also hosted the Illinois and Missouri neutral site rivalry game, locally known as the “Arch Rivalry”.
The Scottrade Center has become a regular stop for the WWE and Bellator, as well as the NCAA college basketball tournament.
Not to mention Kansas City Speedway, a stop on the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
