Ranking the best sports cities in the United States
By Mike Dyce
7. Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh is home to three professional sports franchises: Pirates (MLB), Steelers (NFL) and Penguins (NHL). Fun fact, Pittsburgh is the only major city where all the sports franchises share the same color scheme.
Since the turn of the millennium, the Steelers have won two Super Bowls with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Sidney Crosby also helped lead the Penguins to a Stanley Cup title in 2009. The Pirates have also been able to end the suffering of their fans to a certain degree and bring baseball back to the city in October.
Aside from the Pirates resurgence and playoff contention, they have arguably one of the most beautiful ball parks in all of Major League Baseball, offering breathtaking views of Roberto Clemente Bridge and the skyline.
Heinz Field, home of the Steelers, has hosted a plethora of sporting events like the NHL’s outdoor game, the Winter Classic. Major European soccer clubs like A.C. Milan and Manchester City have played at the stadium. Heinz Field also started in The Dark Knight Rises.
The city is also host to the University of Pittsburgh, a school with a rich football history that recently included stars like wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
