Ranking the best sports cities in the United States
By Mike Dyce
29. Baltimore
Baltimore is a bustling metropolis home to two major professional sports franchises, the Ravens (NFL) and Orioles (MLB). The Ravens have found success, contending in the AFC and winning two Super Bowls since 2000. Most recently the Ravens brought home the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2012.
The Ravens have a die-hard and healthy fan base. Their games with the spectacle that was Ray Lewis’ entrance was something to behold.
M&T Bank Stadium has regularly hosted the Army-Navy Game, and frequently hosted Navy football games. The stadium has hosted big time European soccer clubs and Gold Cup matches. It also is a regular destination for the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
The Orioles have struggled to find the championship success that rivals that of the Ravens, but they play in one of the most beautiful parks in Major League Baseball.
A lack of big sports events hurts Baltimore, but hey, it’s the birth place of Michael Phelps.
