Ranking the best sports cities in the United States
By Mike Dyce
1. Boston
Boston is home to the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox – four franchises in the big four North American sports. The city is also home to Boston College, Boston University and Harvard, as well as the New England Revolution.
Since the turn of the millennium, the Patriots have won four Super Bowls, the Red Sox have won three World Series, the Celtics and Bruins have each won a title. That is a lot of parades, a lot of championship bling and a lot of winning. They’re also the only city that can boast a championship in each of the four major sports since 2008, which is just downright impressive.
The Revolution have also been perennial contenders, making it to the MLS Cup five times since the turn of the millennium.
On top of it all, the city was in contention to host the Olympics, no matter how misguided that idea was. Boston also has routinely been a home to UFC events, including two of Irish star Conor McGregor’s fights. The most recent of which was against Dennis Siver in front of a raucous crowd and saw McGregor leap out of the octagon to challenge champion Jose Aldo, who was sitting ringside.
Not to mention, the city is home of the Boston Marathon, which holds a special spot in the hearts of Americans everywhere.
