The Tampa Bay Rays took part in a time-honored tradition on Tuesday when rookie teammate Richie Shaffer got his first home run

Sometimes the life of a rookie in Major League Baseball isn’t easy. As a matter of fact, sometimes it’s not the easiest even after you accomplish one of the biggest feats of your career, such as the first home run you’ll ever hit in the big time. This was a lesson that Richie Shaffer of the Tampa Bay Rays learned on Tuesday night.
With the Rays taking on the Chicago White Sox and basically taking it to them, Shaffer helped them pile on in the 7th inning, blasting a solo home run. That blast was not only his first home run, but it was also his first career hit, making it all the more amazing.
However, when Shaffer got back to the dugout to receive some praise from his veteran teammates, well, he found out that there would be no praise. As is customary, the Rays just flat-out ignored the youngster.
This is a longstanding tradition in the game of baseball, but you have to give credit to Shaffer for making the most out of it all. He high-fived — well, the air.
