Patrick Kane may or may not be in trouble with the police.

UPDATE: It’s still unclear what the investigation surrounds, and it’s still not clear how involved in the investigation Kane is.

The Chicago Blackhawks are the city of Chicago as fans have rallied around the team in its three Stanley Cups in six years. One of the most entertaining aspects of the team is the Blackhawks spark plug winger Patrick Kane, who is quickly turning into the LeBron James of hockey where he’s always the best and smartest player on the ice.

Off the ice, Kane might have done some things that weren’t so smart.

While the details are sketchy at best but it appears Kane is in some trouble with police in New York — unless he’s not. According to the Buffalo News, Kane is involved in a police investigation in Hamburg but the department isn’t talking about it and won’t give out any information about the incident.

"“We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of a criminal investigation until such a time as a person is charged with a crime,” said Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett."

It’s worth stressing that Kane was not arrested and he hasn’t been charged with anything.

Kane is a Hamburg native, so his being there wasn’t outside the realm of possibility. But the fact that nothing is known about this investigation — even the fact that it may or may not exist — is troubling to fans around hockey. Kane is a superstar in the NHL and if something happens to him off the ice to hurt his reputation, then that hurts the reputation of the entire league.

This could all be much ado about nothing, as the police in Hamburg are staying mum about the whole incident that may or may not exist. But this is a situation to keep an eye on as more than just the reputation of Patrick Kane is on the line if something indeed happened.
