49ers’ Aldon Smith arrested and booked into jail

49ers linebacker Aldon Smith might be in some more trouble, as he was reportedly arrested on Thursday night
Surely San Francisco 49ers fans and the franchise were hoping that the troubles were all behind linebacker Aldon Smith and they can focus on mainly football. Well, a few weeks before the season is set to get underway, those wishes might not be coming true.
According to Matt Keller of ABC 7, Smith was arrested on Thursday night and booked into a Santa Clara jail. He was given a $26,000 bail.
This is obviously not good news for the 49ers, who have not exactly been having the best off-season as they try and transition into the Jim Tomsula era.
Again, this is not the first time that Smith has been on the wrong side of the law.
Smith struggled with addiction in the past, and one of his most recent bizarre incidents came last April was he was arrested and booked for a bomb threat in a Los Angeles airport. Smith had reportedly cleaned himself up, so it’ll be interesting to see whether or not alcohol played a part in whatever charges he was arrested on Thursday night.
Just recently General Manager Trent Baalke was talking about how he’s maturing as they explore a potential new deal.
“Aldon’s like any young player,” Baalke said, via ESPN.com. “He’s growing up, he’s maturing. You see that with a lot of these guys. Some of them get themselves in a few more situations that you wish they didn’t … [but I’m] really pleased with the way he’s handled things, the way he’s working both personally and professionally. I think he’s doing an outstanding job. He’s always been a great teammate. He’s always had an excellent work ethic. Those are things he’s even stepped up.”
Well, it certainly looks like they’ve taken a step back in that regard.
As of this time, details of why Smith was arrested are not known, but we will keep you updated as more of the information becomes available.
UPDATE: Smith was arrested on multiple charges, and alcohol was involved.
