NFL Hall of Fame Game: First quarter recap

Since the first quarter has come and gone in the 2015 NFL Hall of Fame Game, it is pretty much time to write up the recap. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings finished the first 15 games with a 0-0 score, with both teams able to drive the ball before failing to score.

Minnesota had its first-team offense on the field – sans Adrian Peterson – for one series and the group looked pretty solid. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater did not make any great plays, but was able to move into the Pittsburgh red zone. On fourth-and-1 from the Steelers’ 10-yard line, the Vikings were not able to convert on a run up the gut with Jerick McKinnon being stuffed for no gain.

Overall, Bridgewater completed 5-of-6 passes for 44 yards. His only incompletion was intended for Mike Wallace along the sideline, who was wide open.

On the other side of the coin, Pittsburgh decided not to play anybody worth talking about, unless you are really excited about Landry Jones. Just for fun, why didn’t head coach Mike Tomlin at least make the game interesting by inserting a fan into the game instead of Jones? At least we could have gotten a great laugh.

If Ben Roethlisberger goes down for any length of time, the Steelers are totally screwed. Whether Jones or backup Bruce Gradkowski comes in, Pittsburgh is staring at the business end of a tough season. For the record, Jones went 5-of-6 for 40 yards going into the second quarter.

Roethlisberger was not dressed for this contest, while Heath Miller, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown also did not play. Shockingly, Minnesota was able to keep the Steelers at bay.
