Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. We got together for a quick little roundtable to discuss Kobe, NBA Jam, and fun moments from the last few weeks.
Come on, is Kobe really going to finish his career overseas?
Jack (@jackhaveitall): You know, Kobe has always seemed like a guy that won’t be able to give it up. That he doesn’t know anything else but basketball. So yeah, I think I could see him playing over in Europe once he really can’t cut it in the Association, especially since he grew up there.
Taylor (@TaylorBojangles): I could see it. We know Kobe’s a soccer guy, and lots of soccer superstars from around the world have been coming to MLS to end their careers of late. So I could see him doing something similar. Kobe going and getting a nice paycheck while tossing up 25 shots a game against inferior Euro competition would be a very Kobe way to go out. It’d be fun.
Matt (@Matt_Cianfrone): Nah, I don’t think so. I think Kobe is the kind of guy that eventually realizes that he just has nothing left and thinks about his legacy and hangs it up. Before the injuries I could have seen it but now I don’t think so. He got hurt, missed two years, then struggled in the NBA, and going overseas could put a really sour end on things and he will understand that.
Who are you running with in updated NBA Jam?
Jack: Gotta go with KD and Russ. For as incredible as they are in real life, these two are even more unstoppable as a video game duo. They’ve got everything you could ever want: shooting, dunking, passing, power, athleticism, etc.
Taylor: I’ll take Harden and Howard. You’ve got Dwight to rebound, block shots and dunk, and you’ve got Harden to handle the ball, lob to Howard and rain triples. Easy enough.
Matt: I own the most recent NBA Jam game that was made for Xbox 360 and KD and Russ were unstoppable in that because KD blocks shots like a big man with his size. So staying with that group. Though if Anthony Davis starts making threes this year the Pelicans become the go too team.
What has been your favorite fun moment from the past few weeks?
Jack: Maya Moore’s three-point celebration was awesome, but it has to be Hakeem getting a bucket in the NBA Africa Game. It was 100 percent a surprise to see him and Dikembe out there, and a fantastic moment for the NBA and the whole continent of Africa.
Taylor: The return of the Dream Shake was a glorious moment. Otherwise, I loved the story about Gilbert Arenas winning all of the prizes and subsequently being banned from the basketball shooting game at the O.C. Fair. We hadn’t really heard from Gilbert in a while, yet that’s a very Gilbert way of getting back into the news. Honorable mention: Lance Stephenson rocking out with the Ninja Turtles.
Matt: Giannis saying he was going to steal the Larry O’Brien. This one is purely bias but whatever. Dikembe dancing is a close second though.
