Things were going great for the Chicago Cubs. On Sunday afternoon, Chicago was able to shut out the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants 2-0. The victory gave the Cubs a sweep and an important one to create some space in the National League wild card race. However, the good vibes were short lived, per Sports Illustrated.

Wrigley Field needed to be evacuated by law enforcement after a bomb threat was made to the stadium. The evacuation included everyone from fans to players, who were forced out of the cozy confines. To this point, no bomb has either gone off or been found.

Most of the fans had already poured into the streets to celebrate the successful weekend, so clearing out the stadium was not overly difficult. The main point is that nobody was hurt and the prized ballpark is without any damage.

From a baseball standpoint, this could be a huge turning point in the National League race. Chicago has been on the edge of the wild card race for the last few months. The St. Louis Cardinals are likely going to win the NL Central and the Pittsburgh Pirates are cruising to the top wild card spot, but the fifth and final playoff spot is muddled.

The New York Mets and Washington Nationals are both fighting for the NL East, with the loser looking at the wild card. The Giants would love to beat out the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, but otherwise are in play for the wild card as well.
