Prior to 2015, the NFL Draft had been held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City since 2006. Though not at Radio City, the league’s premier offseason event was a New York fixture since 1965. After Radio City Music Hall scheduled an event in the NFL’s desired time slot league officials decided it was time for a change of scenery, with Chicago and Los Angeles being the two cities tabbed for the spectacle.
The 2015 NFL Draft was held at the Auditorium Theatre in downtown Chicago from April 30 to May 2. Despite cold weather, the Chicago location afforded the league an additional outdoor setting, Draft Town, for fans to hang out at. According to CSN Chicago, the NFL Draft resulted in an economic spike of $100 million.
NFL’s Ian Rapoport reports that future cities in consideration to host the draft are Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh.
