New Orleans Pelicans 2015-16 NBA Schedule
A look at the schedule for the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2015-16 NBA season
The New Orleans Pelicans were able to pull off the most important task they had this offseason. With rising superstar able to sign an extension, the Pelicans locked up their franchise cornerstone with to a five-year, $145 million max contract. With that alone, this offseason would have been a win for the Pelicans.
Some of the other re-signings for the Pelicans were a little more questionable than locking up a sure-fire superstar. For instance, giving Alexis Ajinca a four-year contract worth $19.2 million is curious to say the least. However, far more curious is the front office choosing to re-sign center Omer Asik as well to the tune of a five-year deal that will pay him over $11 million per year.
The Pelicans weren’t done with the center position in free agency as they also signed Kendrick Perkins to a one-year deal. Outside of the center position, the Pelicans also added Alonzo Gee one a serviceable two-year deal and were able to re-sign both Luke Babbitt and Dante Cunningham. Also worth noting is Eric Gordon taking his player option, as expected.
The 2015-16 season brings high expectations for the Pelicans. After giving the eventual NBA Champion Golden State Warriors a tough series in the first round as the eight-seed in the NBA Playoffs last season, the Pelicans have a ton of talent, a superstar in Davis, and a new head coach in Alvin Gentry who brings with him the hope of taking this team to the next level.
You have to imagine that the Pelicans are going to make a jump from last season, even with teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder being healthier and competing more fiercely in the Western Conference. The addition of Gentry on the sideline and another year of growth for Davis could make New Orleans a dark horse in the West.
With all that being said, here’s what the Pelicans’ 2015-16 schedule looks like:
