New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will reportedly not play in the preseason opener against Green Bay.

The NFL season is roughly a month away and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is fighting the league in courts for the chance to play when the season begins, seeking to have his four-game suspension for Deflategate overturned.

While he fights for the ability to play in Week 1 of the NFL season, Brady will miss the Patriots first preseason game.

The decision not to play Brady in the preseason game stems from head coach Bill Belichick’s mantra of not playing players who aren’t at practice. Brady has been at the hearings for his Deflategate appeal, so he has missed practice. It probably isn’t really an issue, the dude has won four Super Bowls, played in six and set NFL passing records. He doesn’t need a preseason game and has missed preseason games before. It hasn’t hindered him at this point in his career so there is no reason to think it will do so in 2015.

Plus, isn’t getting on the field in the regular season a bigger deal than the preseason.
