A look at the Portland Trail Blazers’ 2015-16 NBA Schedule
The Portland Trail Blazers finished the 2014-15 NBA season with the sixth-best record in the Western Conference, but went into the postseason as the four-seed as the Pacific Division Champion in the regular season. The Memphis Grizzlies knocked them off in the first round of the playoffs, but Trail Blazers fans will be longing for last season during the 2015-16 campaign.
Portland’s offseason was undoubtedly soured by the loss of All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. In Aldridge, the Blazers lose their leading scorer and rebounder as the big man put up 23.4 points and 10.2 boards per game last season. However, the turnover on Portland’s roster doesn’t end there.
Portland also lost Wesley Matthews, Robin Lopez and Arron Afflalo in free agency. In addition to that, the Blazers also traded away Nicolas Batum to the Charlotte Hornets right after season’s end.
The Blazers aren’t sitting with no one on their roster, though. Mason Plumlee will be in Portland this season after a draft-night trade for Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, as will rookie Pat Connaughton. In free agency, the Blazers landed Al-Farouq Aminu, Phil Pressey and Ed Davis. Meanwhile, they received Maurice Harkless and Mike Miller in separate trades.
Perhaps the biggest thing that the Blazers were able to pull of this summer was locking up point guard Damian Lillard to a long-term extension. However, the core around Lillard that had turned Portland into a dangerous team in the West is now entirely gone with Lillard being the only remaining starter from last season.
The Blazers have a completely different look heading into the 2015-16 season and have major holes left by all of their departing starters. However, this younger Portland team will still look to compete behind Lillard as they move on from the loss of Aldridge.
