Help is on the way

One of the big reasons the Mets have had some struggles this season is due to so many injuries. Well, the team may be getting some of those guys back for the stretch run.

David Wright, who only played in eight games before going down with a back injury that turned out to be spinal stenosis, recently started a rehab assignment down in Port. St Lucie. New York can then put him in the second spot in the batting order when he plays and then drop everyone down a spot, which makes the lineup better.

Wright is the captain of the squad, and his return would give the team a boost off and on the field.

Steven Matz is beginning his rehab, as well, and will provide another power arm in the rotation. He can give the Mets the option to extend to six starters down the stretch to limit the innings of Matt Harvey and Noah Syndergaard.

Rafael Montero recently restarted his rehab and if he can get over his injury, he can be another arm for the Mets to use out of the bullpen.

Erik Goeddel is another arm the Mets have on the rehab trail who could soon return to help out of the bullpen. He struck out 23 in 23 innings out of the bullpen and had a 1.96 ERA.

The Mets just got Michael Cuddyer back to help off the bench and hit against lefties. The healthier the Mets are, the deeper they become, and that is going to give other teams problems.
