D’Angelo Russell was the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Drat, to the Los Angeles Lakers, and with that came a certain set of expectations. Everybody knows about LA’s prestigious history as one of the NBA’s marquee franchises and the many great players that have stepped foot wearing that jersey. One of those great players is Russell’s current teammate, Kobe Bryant. Now there will always be an argument that Kobe belongs in the greatest of all time argument, but most acknowledge that he is not the GOAT. It turns out that Russell is one of those that also believes his teammate is not the GOAT. However, the player he does think it is might be a little surprising.

Yes. D’Angelo Russell tweeted out, while being followed by thousands of Lakers fans, that Tracy McGrady might be the GOAT. The same McGrady that battled Kobe for many years, before injuries took away an incredible career. As one might think….this didn’t’ sit well with some of the Lakers fans following him.

Awe. I sit in here awe. Russell had to have known what he was doing. He knows what team he’s on. He knows what player he plays with. And he certainly knows what man is going to be sitting in training camp waiting to devour him at a moment’s notice.
Yet, this just makes Russell more endearing. As a rookie he has shown no fear to the aging greatness of Kobe, and maybe this is a way of challenging him? A way to say that he’s not afraid of the veteran of the team, and wants to take over as the face of the franchise himself?
Or maybe he’s just a big T-Mac fan. After all, despite his short lived prime, there was a legitimate debate between fans that T-Mac was the best player among the trio of Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and him in the early 2000’s.
