Top five left-handed NFL quarterbacks of all-time
3. Boomer Esiason
Esiason was one of the top quarterbacks of the 1980s for the Cincinnati Bengals. The former University of Maryland star was a second-round pick in the 1984 NFL Draft and got to sit behind Ken Anderson for a year before taking the controls in 1985. From that season on, Esiason had six consecutive campaigns of at least 3,000 passing yards, including 1988 when he was named NFL MVP on the way to a Super Bowl appearance.
Esiason is also one of the best play-action quarterbacks in league history. The lefty made a living out of sucking the defense toward the line of scrimmage, then hitting them over the top with bombs to Eddie Brown. Esiason played with Cincinnati through the end of the 1992 season before joining the New York Jets for three campaigns. Esiason then played one year with the Arizona Cardinals before finishing up in 1997 with the Bengals.
For his career, Esiason threw for 37,920 yards, the second-most for a left-handed quarterback. Esiason also threw 247 touchdowns, including a career-high 28 touchdowns in both 1988 and 1989. Even his in last season on a terrible team, Esiason threw 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
