With 28 pitchers going in the big tournaments tonight, it is important to find all of the information you can to give you a leg up on the competition. These picks are made to maximize value at DraftKings. It is important to note the major differences between DraftKings and FanDuel. They are very different animals.

The biggest difference is pitching. DK gives you twice the value for strikeouts and innings pitched, but also docks you for hits allowed and docks you twice as much for earned runs. You want to find a high strikeout pitcher who doesn’t allow a lot of base runners. You also start two pitchers instead of just one. In smaller tournaments, that can be a challenge!
For the hitters, you want to chase homers in DK since they don’t count outs against you. The major difference is that caught stealing will cost you two points. Chasing cheap steals like Billy Hamilton or Dee Gordon are good strategies at FanDuel. Not so much at DraftKings.
You can also play for as little at $.25 at DraftKings and win up to $50 from that entry. They really do have something for everyone!
One other key difference is that you can select more than four players from one team. This can be huge for light days, and for days when you know an opposing pitcher is just going to get hammered. Is there anything like that tonight? Let’s find out!

Here are my DraftKings picks for August 14:

There are plenty of aces in action tonight. Who is worth paying for? Let’s do a little digging!
Max Scherzer, Corey Kluber, and Tyson Ross are the only ones in action tonight that average more than a strikeout per inning. You can add David Price because he is close, and his 2.35 ERA and 1.07 WHIP are going to do more for you than a lot of the strikeout artists. Dallas Keuchel can also be added for his 2.40 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.
For the cheaper options, I will give three names that warrant consideration. First is Robbie Ray. He has 71 strikeouts in 77.1 innings to go with a 3.13 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Mike Montgomery went through a rough patch just after the All Star break, but he seems to be back on track. He won’t get you much for strikeouts (60 in 80.1 innings), but his 3.25 ERA is enticing. Last, and possibly best, is Jaime Garcia. He missed the first couple of months, but he has been great since his return. He has posted only 46 strikeouts in 66 innings, but has a stellar 1.77 ERA and 0.91 WHIP.
That gives us eight pitchers to consider from all over the price spectrum. Let’s start paring the list down. First out will be Montgomery because he is in hitter-friendly Fenway Park, and that 1.24 WHIP is cause for concern. if you want to chase the win though, he has a great chance against the struggling Joe Kelly.
David Price was brilliant in his last start against the Yankees, and he will have a great chance for a win with Ivan Nova on the hill for the Yankees. That said, I can’t justify paying $12,300 for him when the Yankees are hitting .252 off of him with only 67 strikeouts in 278 at bats. I can find better places to spend the money.
Tyson Ross is also out because the current Rockies team is hitting .271 off of him, and that doesn’t include Troy Tulowitzi, who pounded Ross. He will likely get the win over Yohan Flande, but there are numerous reasons not to start anyone at Coors Field. His 1.36 WHIP is all I need to cite.
I’m giving Ray the boot because of his mound opponent, Julio Teheran. Of the five pitchers left on my short list, he has the worst chance at a win.
And then there were four. I am definitely using Kluber because he has dominated the Twins in his career, and there are few teams colder than Minnesota right now. He has a great chance to be the highest scorer of the night.
That leaves Scherzer, Keuchel, or Garcia. I like Scherzer, but I am not spending $14,600 on him against a solid Giants offense. Keuchel against Detroit is a decent play, but Garcia against the Marlins could be a game changer.
My Picks: Kluber and Garcia
Next: Who Are The Best Infield Options?
Aug 10, 2015; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Royals batter Kendrys Morales (25) hits a RBI single against the Detroit Tigers during the first inning at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports
Kendrys Morales is 8 for 12 with two walks and a solo home run in his career against Jered Weaver. Oh, he also is hitting .308 with 13 RBI in August.
Pedro Alvarez is cheap ($3,400) and is eligible at first and third in your DraftKings lineup. He is also 4 for 9 with two doubles and a home run off of Bartolo Colon. He also has clubbed two homers in his last three games. We all know that Alvarez can be very streaky. He could be a steal tonight!
Aramis Ramirez is 5 for 12 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI against Colon. His average has improved in Pittsburgh, but he has yet to hit a home run with them. That could change against Colon.
Ian Desmond is 5 for 14 with a walk, a double, a home run, and two RBI in his career against Matt Cain. Cain is still trying to shake the rust off, so Desmond could get to him again.
You can play Ben Zobrist all over the place, and he has done pretty well against Jered Weaver in his career. He is 7 for 24 (.292) with a walk, two doubles, a triple, a homer, and four RBI against him.
Billy Butler runs into another pitcher that he has hit well in the past in Ubaldo Jimenez. He is 9 for 28 with five walks, a double, a homer and five RBI off of the Oriole veteran. The caveat is that Butler is hitting below the Mendoza line since July 1st, and has not homered since July 19th. Not only that, but he has only driven in one run in August, and that was on the first of the month.
Kelly Johnson only has two career hits against J.A. Happ, but they have both left the ballpark.
Mark Teixeira is only a career .200 hitter (12 for 60) against David Price, but he has homered three times and driven in eight against him.
Brandon Crawford has only faced Max Scherzer twice. He came away with a walk and a three run homer.
Casey McGehee is 5 for 17 with two walks, a double, a home run, and five RBI off of Jaime Garcia. The rest of the current Marlins team (minus the injured Giancarlo Stanton) is 5 for 36 off of him.
Justin Smoak has two homers in his last five games. He also has two hits, including a homer and four RBI, in just five at bats against Ivan Nova.
Trevor Plouffe is the only Twin that has not struggled against Kluber. He is 9 for 31 (.290) with a double, two home runs, and seven RBI off of the reigning AL Cy Young Winner.
Mark Reynolds is 2 for 3 off of Tom Koehler. Both hits are two run home runs.
Ian Kinsler is 6 for 19 (.316) with two walks, a home run, and two RBI against Dallas Keuchel.
My Picks: Morales, Kinsler, Alvarez, Crawford
Next: Who Are The Best Outfielders?
Aug 12, 2015; Cleveland, OH, USA; New York Yankees catcher Brian McCann (34) rounds the bases after hitting a home run during the second inning against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. Mandatory Credit: Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports
Curtis Granderson is 3 for 11 with with three walks, a double, a home run, and four RBI off of Happ.
Brian McCann has absolutely torched David Price. He is 9 for 19 (.474) with a walk, three homers, and seven RBI off of the Jays ace.
Another lefty, Jacoby Ellsbury, has fared well against Price also. He is 18 for 53 (.340) with three walks, four doubles, two triples, a home run, and four RBI against him.
Charlie Blackmon is 4 for 13 with a walk, a double, a home run, and two RBI off of Tyson Ross.
Jose Bautista has six walks and five hits, including a home run and four RBI, off of Ivan Nova. He also is hitting .310 with six homers, 13 RBI, and 13 runs scored in August.
Andrew McCutchen is hitting .395 with five homers, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and a steal in August. He is also 3 for 9 against Colon, but has no counting stats.
Jason Heyward is 6 for 16 with a triple, a RBI, and two walks against Tom Koehler. He is also hitting .333 with 7 RBI in August.
Nelson Cruz is 5 for 11 in his career against Joe Kelly. He also has eight homers, but only nine RBI, in August.
A.J. Pierzynski is heating up. He is hitting .362 with a homer and seven RBI in August, and is hitting .310 against right handed pitching on the season.
My Picks: McCann, Kelly Johnson, Grady Sizemore, and Bautista
