The PGA Championship is entering the final two round of play, but Tiger Woods will not be a part of the action after missing the cut.
If you woke up this morning wondering why it felt like it’s been so long since you’ve seen Tiger Woods playing on a Saturday, it’s because he hasn’t been around to do so. Word has missed the cut in his last three Major appearances as he continues the most brutal stretch of his career.
For all intents and purpose, it may be a career that is flickering out after all these years of us hoping the flame would be rekindled.
That’s not going to happen this weekend at Whistling Straits, as Woods has officially missed the cut and won’t be playing in the final two rounds of yet another Major. It’s not the low point of his career, rather it’s a continuation of a prolonged low point that he hasn’t recovered from and might not ever be able to.
That’s not good, if you had any doubt.
Woods shot a 75 on Thursday and was only able to get to 73 on Friday which is why he is missing the cut this weekend in Wisconsin. We have to remember that Woods isn’t washed up just yet, but he’s not doing himself any favors when it comes to be relevant in a game that is being taken over by the next generation of golfer.
That’s not an excuse for Woods’ slump either. We’ve seen other golfing greats like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus go gracefully into the night as the next generation after them took over. Woods is flaming out hard, is only 39-years old but has managed to make himself look much worse than he is.
Or, maybe he really is that bad and we’re all just hoping he’s going to get better. His best years are no doubt very far behind him but golfing fans won’t give up hope for a late career revival until such a thing is physically no long possible — which, again, might already be the case.
