Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly got into it with a reporter over holding DeMarco Murray out of the preseason game.

When the Philadelphia Eagles played their preseason game on Sunday, they did so without running back DeMarco Murray. It’s the preseason so holding out a player to make sure he doesn’t get injured is relatively normal, but one media member in particular, decided to pry during the post-game press conference with head coach Chip Kelly and he wasn’t having any of it.

Here is how the exchange went:

Q. RB DeMarco Murray, you decided to hold him back?

COACH KELLY: Yeah, we knew we were going to go out and try to work him out a little pregame and get ready to play the Ravens. A couple guys we kept out like that.

Q. Is keeping Murray out still your call?

COACH KELLY: Yeah, he’s fine. He should be going Tuesday.

Q. Would your explanation for holding back Murray be the same as the one you gave for holding QB Sam Bradford back?

COACH KELLY: You can write whatever you want. I really don’t care what you guys write to be honest with you.

Q. Just wondering why Murray isn’t playing?

COACH KELLY: Because I said I held him back. I just answered that question.

First of all, that went from 0 to 100 real quick.

Second, how awesome is it that Kelly hit him with the “to be honest.”

Third, is it too ridiculous to inquire about whether there is some health issue with Kelly? Should the media just accept Kelly’s “he’s fine” and move along, no. Murray was after all ran into the ground, just about till the wheels fell off, by the Dallas Cowboys last season.
