NFL 2015: Ranking the 32 offenses
21. Detroit Lions
Before all the Detroit Lions fans send angry emails, hear out the argument. The Lions allowed Reggie Bush to walk so they can feature Ameer Abdullah and Joique Bell. Perhaps this is a good move, but Bell would really need to step up and/or Abdullah has to become an immediate impact player. The main concern is the offensive line, with a revamped interior.
The center position has featured Dominic Raoila for years, but now sees Travis Swinson and Manny Ramirez stepping in. At left guard, first-round pick Laken Tomlinson will take over. Tomlinson projects to be a fine player, but he will deal with rookie struggles like everyone else. At left tackle, Riley Reiff has struggled with pass blocking. The Lions schedule is loaded with great pass-rushers.
Detroit has a tremendous pair of receivers in Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, while boosting a quality quarterback in Matthew Stafford. Yet, does this group have enough balance and can the offensive line afford Stafford the type of protection he needs to air the ball out? The Lions could be better than this ranking, but the problems they have could be their downfall.
