7. Eric Dickerson

Eric Dickerson is another all-time great running back in NFL history who never got to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Dickerson was a six-time Pro Bowler, a five-time First Team All-Pro and led the NFL in rushing in four different years.

In 1984, Dickerson set the NFL’s single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards, a mark that still stands today. Dickerson finished the career with 13,259 yards, putting him seventh on the all-time list, though he retired as the second leading rusher of all-time.

In 1983 as a rookie, Dickerson rushed for over 1,800 yards while winning Rookie of the Year honors. During his first four seasons in the league with the Rams, Dickerson rushed for 6,968 yards, an average of 1,742 yards a season.

That is one of the best four year stretches by a running back in history.

To really show Dickerson’s impact, the Rams retired his jersey and the Indianapolis Colts put Dickerson in their Ring of Honor, two teams honoring Dickerson for his impact on the franchise. Dickerson was named to the 1980s All-Decade team.

Dickerson’s closest call with the Super Bowl came during the 1985 season with the Rams. The Rams met the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship Game and lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions.
