On Saturday, the San Diego Chargers and quarterback Philip Rivers finally agreed on a contract extension that carries him through the 2019 season and probably, the rest of his career. In celebration, Rivers channeled his inner college kid and decided to order Domino’s pizza with jalapenos, pepperoni and black olives. per USA Today.

It’s refreshing to see an athlete celebrate like a normal person. There was no party that cost $300,000. There were not strippers and an entourage. The man just wanted some pizza, something we can all agree is a great thing (if you can’t agree on that, you are a horrendous person).

Rivers always has been one of the more likable players in the league since being drafted first-overall by the New York Giants in the 2004 NFL Draft, only to be dealt seconds later to the Chargers. Rivers is on track for Hall of Fame consideration, and at 33 years old should have a few more seasons to add to that resume. One thing that would likely put him over the top would be a Super Bowl ring or at least an appearance. San Diego has only reached the AFC Championship once with Rivers at the helm, losing to the undefeated New England Patriots in 2008.

San Diego is expected to compete in the AFC West along with the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos. The AFC is wide open this season with Tom Brady looking at a four-game suspension to start the season, perhaps costing New England home-field advantage.
