Looking at all 30 MLB teams’ uniforms, including alternates and using a little history to judge them against one another.

Baseball uniforms are a funny thing, aren’t they?

In some cases, franchises cling to their digs from yesteryear, because baseball is nothing without tradition. In other cases, teams change it up routinely, switching patterns, striping and even sometimes coloring and logos every five to 10 years.

Sometimes uniforms are created for a certain time, and then that particular fashion runs its course and becomes outdated. And then some are timeless, which is based in part on the fact that colors such as black and white, or even navy—yes I’m giving a slight hint as to whose uniform scheme will make the top-five—simply happen to always be “in”.

Franchises who elect to keep status quo generally do so because they have look that never goes out of style. But also because tradition, a key word in baseball aesthetics, demands uniformity.

And franchises who change it up do so, presumably, in hopes that this time the change will be the one that sticks. The one to ruminate with fans and creates a lasting brand.

Let’s face it, especially in 2015, fans at young ages often choose their favorite teams—if not indoctrinated from birth by their father or grandfather—based on a color scheme or logo. And they especially will if learning to love the game from afar.

Of course, aesthetic appeal is also largely opinionated. Most of us past a certain age can agree that “flashy and creative” is not as important as “classic and regal.” As much as possible, these rankings will follow that belief. So, in descending order, here are the official 2015 Major League Baseball uniform rankings.
