14. Seattle Mariners

I’ve always liked the Seattle Mariners’ current uniforms, even after the M’s made some subtle changes to their outfits this past offseason. They added some outlining to the letters and numbers—which is most notable on the back name plates.

But while I always liked the uniforms, I also felt the team was in need of a change, even if it was something minor. Seattle added a Sunday jersey which has no name plate and features the old royal blue and yellow of the 1980s Mariners teams—another wildly popular move.

Add in the amazing teal home alternates (probably the best alternate jerseys in baseball) that they have generally worn only on Mondays or Fridays, and the dark blue alternate with “SEATTLE” across the chest, and you have a bevy of uniform combinations, which somehow avoids overkill (from a variety perspective).

I’m really not sure how they did it, but the Mariners became the University of Oregon without all the negative connotations. Granted they are not the only franchise with more than three uniforms, though it sure does seem like a lot compared to many other teams.

The point is that they’ve made these transitions seamlessly. And though their play has left something to be desired this year, at least they look good on the field. If you can’t win at least look good. Sounds like something out of Zoolander.
