NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter has apologized for his awful advice to NFL rookies.

The NFL puts on a symposium to try and give rookies advice ahead of their career, advice meant to guide them and keep them on the right path.

During the NFC symposium, Cris Carter told rookies to have a “fall guy” in their entourage to cover their butts if they were ever to get into trouble.

Not necessarily the kind of advice the NFL probably envisioned rookies receiving, but somehow the video still made it to the league’s website.

It was met with backlash and disdain for Carter, who as taken to Twitter swiftly to apologize.

The NFL had released a statement earlier in the day about the comments, denouncing them.

“This was an unfortunate and inappropriate comment made by Cris Carter during the 2014 NFC rookie symposium,” the NFL’s statement said. “The comment was not representative of the message of the symposium or any other league program. The league’s player engagement staff immediately expressed concern about the comment to Cris. The comment was not repeated in the 2014 AFC session or this year’s symposium.”
