James Harrison will not have any of this participation award nonsense — he earns all of his safety sacks, even when they don’t count.

When James Harrison says participation awards don’t count, you don’t argue with the man. He’s spent an entire NFL career earning his keep on the gridiron and will not be having any of this nonsense about people being handed things for just showing up.

James Harrison and things that don’t count just can’t co-exist — unless it’s preseason football.

In a game that is basically solely about participation, James Harrison took down Aaron Rodgers in the end zone on Sunday afternoon for a preseason safety sack. It was glorious, it got the crowd to their feet and was something that rarely happens in the NFL, especially to Aaron Rodgers.

It also doesn’t count for anything.

While it was a great sack — one that the entire Steelers defense should probably get credit for — it, like participation awards, doesn’t really count. It’s a sack, but the preseason stats teams rack up really don’t count for much more than participation.

Don’t tell that to James Harrison though, he’ll just sack you in the end zone and never look back.
