David Wright homers in first at bat since injury (Video)
David Wright made his return to the New York Mets in a big way with a monster home run
New York Mets third baseman David Wright has been out of the lineup and on the Disabled List since playing in the first nine games of the season. Wright has been rehabbing from a back injury over the last few months, but it was announced he would make his return to the Mets lineup on Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.
It took Wright only one at-bat to announce his presence back in the Mets’ lineup. Batting cleanup after a one-two-three first inning, Wright led off the top of the second inning for New York. He watched the first two pitches go by, the first for a strike and the second for a ball, Wright took a big cut and made big contact:
That’s one heck of a shot in your first at-bat back from injury, but Wright has proven this is the type of thing that he’s capable of when healthy.
With the Mets currently sitting atop the National League East, how Wright fits into the lineup could make or break the home stretch of the season for New York. If this is what they expect, the storybook season could continue for the Mets.
