The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering bringing back Metta World Peace

The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into the 2015-16 NBA season with an exciting young crop of talent and some veterans such as Kobe Bryant, Lou Williams, and Roy Hibbert. Even with all of this talent, there are still questions about the amount of success this team can have. Apparently the front office is looking to help the cause by surprisingly reaching out to a familiar face.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Lakers are “seriously considering” signing 35-year-old forward Metta World Peace:

World Peace hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2013-14 season, spending last year playing in both China and Italy. This summer, he was unable to come to terms on a deal with Pallacanestro Cantu in Italy.

While adding a veteran presence that spent four seasons with the Lakers isn’t the worst idea, it’s worth noting that World Peace was highly ineffective the last time he was on an NBA roster. In the 13-14 season, he suited up for the New York Knicks, playing in just 29 games and averaging a mere 4.8 points and two rebounds in 13.4 minutes pre game while shooting only 39.4 percent from the floor (per ESPN).

There’s still no deal in place and perhaps World Peace could provide some needed depth to a team in the midst of a transition. However, this seems like an inconsequential and trivial ploy by the Lakers.
