Justin Verlander nearly had another no-hitter on Wednesday, but Chris Iannetta was out to spoil that at maybe the worst possible time
During the first half of the MLB season, Justin Verlander was not looking all like…well, Justin Verlander. He was struggling, but since the second half of the season got underway, he’s looked more like himself. On Wednesday night, he looked so much like his old self that we almost got some history.
But then, that pesky Chris Iannetta had to go and ruin it all.
With the Tigers taking on the Angels on Wednesday night, Verlander was out on that mound just straight dealing. He was bringing it so much that he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning. If he were to finish it off then it would be the third no-hitter of his illustrious career.
However, in the ninth inning Iannetta stepped up to the plate and hit a double. Now the most heartbreaking part about all this is the fact that the ball was oh so very close to being foul. It literally hit the chalk.
Yeah – that’s gonna be a tough one to live with. https://t.co/NgxJ2sJfyl

It’s always hard to watch a no-hitter end, but when it ends in that fashion — it’s a little harder to swallow.
