That alleged tape of Dez Bryant doing something worse than Ray Rice is still something that people are talking about — and it’s not going away.

Remember back in early part of the NFL offseason when there was all that speculation about a tape of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant doing something worse than Ray Rice? Yeah, we had pushed it to the back of our minds too but thanks to a Rolling Stone NFL preview issue coming out soon, the whole incident is being brought back to the forefront.

The magazine didn’t do an investigation into the existence of the tape, rather they did a profile on Dez in which the incident came up. This has given us slightly new information about the tape that may or may not exist and what we learn really all depends on how deep you’re willing to read into things.

Bryant said to Rolling Stone, via the Dallas Morning News, that there isn’t a tape and he told Jerry Jones to his face that he isn’t like other troubled Cowboys from the past like Michael Irvin.

"“The first time I heard that was from Mr. Jones last season: He said there was a tape of me that might get out,” says Bryant. He’d scoffed at Jones, saying that no such thing existed."

For what it’s worth, that’s not really Bryant admitting that there is a tape, rather he denied it to Jerry Jones as soon as he was told about such a thing existing. That’s something that Cowboys fans want to hear, but Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk isn’t so convinced that this exchange means that Bryant is innocent of crimes he may have committed.

"Consider those words carefully. Jones didn’t say there could be or may be or might be a tape. He told Dez that there is a tape — and that it “might get out.”"

This all really depends on how much you’re willing to read into the quote and the semantics of the phrasing. Bryant could have just been speaking causally, which would misconstrue what was said to him and how it was said to him by Jones. Then again, you wouldn’t expect a Dallas publication to read into the quote the way someone like Florio would, so this could be a matter of perspective as well.

Either way, the Dez Bryant tape that still may or may not exist is something that isn’t going away and probably won’t ever go away until we have something definitive one way or the other on the matter.
